Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need experience with horses?
Not at all! No horse experience is necessary. Whether you've been around horses your entire life or have never met one before, sessions are designed to help you feel safe, comfortable, and supported.
Do I ride the horses?
No. Equine-assisted psychotherapy through the EAGALA model is conducted entirely on the ground. Sessions involve interacting with the horses through carefully designed activities that support your therapeutic goals.
What is the difference between office therapy and equine therapy?
Both services provide professional mental health treatment with the same licensed therapist. Traditional office therapy takes place in a comfortable office setting, while equine-assisted psychotherapy occurs outdoors with horses. Together, we'll determine which setting best fits your needs and goals.
What ages do you work with?
I provide therapy for individual ages 8 and older. Services are individualized to meet each client's unique needs and stage of life.
What concerns do you treat?
I work with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, life transitions, relationship challenges, self-esteem concerns, emotional regulation difficulties, behavioral outbursts, and other mental health concerns.
What therapeutic approaches do you use?
I tailor therapy to each individual and draw from evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Motivational Interviewing (MI), strength-based, person-centered therapy, and equine-assisted psychotherapy using the EAGALA Model.
Is equine-assisted psychotherapy evidence-based?
Yes. Equine-assisted psychotherapy is an experiential form of mental health treatment that is facilitated by licensed mental health professionals using established therapeutic approaches. At Wild Hope Ranch, sessions follow the EAGALA model and are integrated into individualized treatment plans.
Will insurance cover therapy?
Office-based therapy may be covered by your insurance plan. Coverage for equine-assisted psychotherapy varies by insurance provider and plan. Please reach out to Wild Hope Ranch with questions about your specific insurance plan and benefits. Wild Hope Ranch is currently in network with Blue Cross of Idaho, Aetna, Pacific Source, St. Luke's Health Partners, and Select Health.
What should I wear for equine therapy?
Wear comfortable clothing appropriate for the weather and closed-toe shoes or boots. Since sessions take place outdoors, dressing in layers is often helpful.
What happens during the first session?
Our first session focuses on getting to know you, understanding your concerns, discussing your goals, and answering any questions you may have. Together, we'll determine the therapeutic approach that best supports your needs.
How long are therapy sessions?
Most therapy sessions are approximately 45-55 minutes. Session length may vary depending on the type of service and your treatment needs.
How do I get started?
